On 15 June 2010, a Member of the European Parliament, Jill Evans, introduced the Report on the Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and Electronic Equipment (Recast), to the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety of the European Parliament. This Report was seen by many as a remarkable step of the European Union (hereinafter EU) towards making Europe the first region to ban certain types of nanomaterials.
